COVID-19: 408 visa expands to agriculture, child care, disability care, food processing, health care sectors

Changes to the Subclass 408 COVID-19 Pandemic event visa adds agriculture, child care, disability care, food processing, and health care sectors to the existing aged care sector as industries for overseas nationals currently employed, or those with offers of employment, to be eligible for this visa if they are unable to meet the requirements of any other substantive visa. The timeframe to apply has also been extended from within 90 days (up from 28 days) from when their substantive visa expires.

Second 485 visa for regional university graduates available from 20 January 2021

From 20 January 2021 international graduates will be able to apply for a second Subclass 485 - Temporary Graduate visa under the Post-Study stream. Whether they are granted a further year or two years depends on which regional area they studied, lived and worked. Holders of this visa will need to abide by new visa condition 8610.

Business skills: 132 visa closing 1 July 2021; Innovation visa to require at least $1.2 million net assets and $750,000 annual turnover; SIV shake-up coming?

Major changes to Australia’s Business Innovation and Investment program (BIIP) will see the Subclass 132 – Business Talent visa closed to new applicants, visa extensions streams grants reduced, and minimum thresholds for a 188 visa under the Business Innovation stream increase with net assets of at least $1.2 million and business annual turnover of at least $750,000 from 1 July 2021.
