RIP training benchmarks, SAF levy commencing 12 August 2018; 457/TSS nomination validity extended

Training benchmarks for employer sponsored temporary and permanent visas will be abolished on 12 August 2018, replaced with the Skilling Australia Fund Levy. There will also be important changes to nominations applications for Subclass 457 - Temporary Work (Skilled) visas and Subclass 482 - Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visas.

ENS/RSMS TRT stream beneficial policy interpretation confirmed

In August’s Skilled Visa Newsletter, the Department of Home Affairs confirmed a benefical policy interpretation of regulations affecting nominations for Subclass 186 - Employer Nomination Scheme and Subclass 187 - Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme under the Temporary Resident Transition stream that, if interpreted is a strict way, would be very detrimental to some nominees.

The Global Talent Scheme pilot programme is currently underway and will run initially until 30 June 2019. Operating under the Subclass 482 - Temproary Skill Shortage visa programme but without any regulations clarifying criteria, it appears to be available only if the Department of Home Affairs are satified their policy objectives have been met.
